AMERICA FERRARI TALKS GETTING OLDER WITH 'LATINA' MAGAZINE

America Ferrera has been out of the public eye for a while.

After finishing her hit show 'Ugly Betty' America got married and sort of left Hollywood. Well now the actress is talking with 'Latina' magazine. America talks about getting older and loving herself more, swimming an emmy and much more. Here is what she had to say:

On why she started a production company: “I have a very unique experience of this industry and I have my own unique opportunities and access. If I don’t step up and put that in the world, then my POV, my experience will never be out there. It will be somebody else’s. When I sit around and wait for somebody else to my story, it leads to helplessness and frustration. It’s been a humbling experience. It takes a lot of work to find a mission and stick to it and try to put that out into the world.”

On playing an “everyday” hero in Superstore: “Amy is a sturdy human being who is living life in a very non-fantastical way. She’s just kind of dealing with what gets handed to her in life and not seeing herself as a victim and not imagining herself an extraordinary or as a superhero. All of her victories are small, but the stakes in them are as high as they would ever get. I think there is humor and heart and healing in humility. The human experience is humbling. That is really needed in comedy.”

On going back to college: “Going back to college as an adult — a real adult — was an incredible experience. It made me wish that I hadn’t done any college until I was an adult and old enough to understand how lucky I was to be in a classroom and getting an education. Going back to school for me was a dream. It even made me want to go to grad school and continue my education, because I love being in an environment of learning. It was a very emotional day when I received my diploma in the mail — even more so than graduation day. To have that diploma stands for the investment I made in myself.”

On growing up with five siblings and a single mother: “My sister and brother were charged with taking care of me. I was always the entertainer. I liked to sing and dance and act before I even knew what I was doing. I liked to break the mold a little bit, but I was lucky to have five older siblings do everything before I did because I got to watch them figure it out. I got to learn from their experience. I feel really lucky to have had them to watch.”
